Check your vocal track

The vocal track is distorted, and has too much reverb. The effect: I can barely understand the lyrics. I suggest you reduce the reverb by, say, 75%. You also have to reduce the volume on the vocal track, as it is dominating the instruments (ain't balanced).

Let me know if you tweaked it. Hope this helps. ^_^

Thanks for the advice. I appreciate it.

Too much panning

Especially at the start of the track. I can only hear the horn from the left, leaving the right side feeling empty. If I took off one side of my headphone, it's as if the horn never existed. When the keys came in, the left side is still dominant. It's only when the second horn came in that things started to balance out (at around the 1-minute mark). If it were me doing the mixing (note: IF it were ME, still your style, man), I wouldn't pan an instrument more than 70% to any side.

I'm not sure if the keys are off-timed or they're really set that way. Kinda ruins the groove for me. I was thinking another 16th later or something... I don't know. I'll just think it's your style.

And yeah, it's more "Blues" than "Jazz" if you ask me. ^_^

Slart responds:

Awright den, I changed the genre to "Blues."

I must confess, I seem to have a fetish for extreme separation of instruments. So I guess that *is* my style. Also, I tend to mix for my own sound system and listening habits, which probably ain't the way to do it. I remember reading an article with a rock producer who said he mixed everything for the crappy stereo in a crappy car he never drove -- he just kept it around for mixing, figuring "if it sounds okay in here, it'll sound good anywhere."

Maybe I should keep that in mind.

Thanks for the feedback.

I suggest...

...that you try and write or make something up, then complete a song. Doesn't have to be that long... a minute or two will do. :)

A well-put track

'Nuff said. Everything's balanced, plus you got me interested. Easy ten and five.

sweet! im in a happy place now!

Hmm... just fix the EQ, and this can kick @rse

Same issue with the rest of the songs I reviewed (check your other songs).

Got the separate tracks for this recording?

I think you guys sound good live. The recording is, well, botched. (Sorry about that.)

If you have the separate tracks of this recording, all you have to do is:
- Add some reverb to the vocals
- Boost bass on the instruments, then add, say, around 1 or 2 dB to each

If you have the tracks and need help, send me a message. :)

Hmm... need to tweak volume.

You need to boost the volume on the entire song. After boosting the volume... yeah, I can hear better now. At first, I thought everything sounded thin.

One thing though... there's a lack of energy in this recording. I didn't feel pumped up. Tweak the bass EQ of the song to give it more weight. It sounds a bit thin, methinks. Also try adding delay or reverb on the vocals (but I have to admit that, without effects, the vocals are good -- better than mine, hehe).

Hope this helps improve your track. Keep it up!

angerofthesystem responds:

I'll keep that in mind on our next ep.

There's gonna be a new song put up tomorrow.

Finally! Light and relaxing music!

With all the hormones flying around the AP, I've finally, FINALLY, stumbled upon this very fresh entry (you're the newest entry when I clicked it), and suddenly, I find myself leaning back into my seat, smiling. You made my day, man. :)

Good keywork. Made my toes tap. Five and ten for you. Keep it up! ^_^

Minoff responds:

Thanks man, glad ive made someone happy

Nice relaxing beat, but nothing more

This is a good beat to relax to, or (if I had the skills) to freestyle gently (I hope that made sense). Liked the opening piano. The transition to piano to hiphop beat was a bit too abrupt, methinks.

Other than that, it's not attention-grabbing, but relaxing. 4 for you. :)

Cool Track

Definitely got my attention. Yup, the horn is a bit loud. But I like how you threw everything together. I can hear the vocals, but the words are barely interpretable. Sounds good; deserves my 5-vote. :)
