You're currently my benchmark

Impressive track. Finest piece I've heard so far in NG. Keep 'em coming! ^_^

Marty256 responds:

That's quite the compliment! I'm new here, so i'm still trying to get acquainted, but i've been snooping around the audio section and there is definitely some great, great stuff in there. Many thanks for the feedback :)

Not bad

Some comments from the top of my head:
- The toms prior to the 33-second mark were overused. I think it would have been better if you only used them in the transitions.
- Nice set of keys.
- Title fits the tune.
- Very pop.
- No problems with the mixing.

5 and 9 for this track.

karpot responds:

Thanks and Ill keep your comments in mind for next time!

Well put; has listening value

I don't agree with the... distorted horn, I guess, that began playing at 1:31. Ruins the chill feel for me (if you intended this to be a chill track).

Other than that, it's a well-put track.

ArcaneClock responds:

Well, it was intended to be an ambient/DnB fusion piece.. the "distorted horn sound" is actually a commonly used PWM bass (although low in quality :p) found in many breakbeat/dnb tracks.
Thank you for appreciating the other elements of the song though.

Good track

Although everything seems to be in place, I'm itching to hear this track with either: a) a vocalist, or b) a lead guitar (or any lead instrument) that will carry the piece throughout the whole song. Methinks the current structure of this song should support this. Take this comment with a grain of salt (it's just my preference).

Otherwise, it's good stuff... just needs that little more extra something to really make it a winner.

TheRealSam responds:

The problem is that the lead singer who had to sing on this song doesn't have any microphone or anything to record his voice with. I just posted this instrumental, hoping you would find it great!

I was chillin'...

...until the transition at 1:27. You caught me by surprise there. Didn't see the compatibility, but it seems to work.

Check the drums; there were some off parts, especially during the chorus. After the transition, the vocals have to be boosted a bit. Guitars and bass sound fine; drums can be better, I guess (unless you intended to go for that classic sound).

Hey!

Glad you posted something new! As with most of your submissions, I like where this is going. ^_^

...although I kind of find the rhythm guitar a bit too bassy for my taste... hmm... nah. I take it back, it's fine. Gonna wait for the vocal track.

Summary: Catchy and has relistening value. Easy 5 and 10. ^_^

Perfect concept, almost perfect execution

You have my 5 and 9 (since it's a great song, but there's room for perfection).

My nitpicks/suggestions:
- Check the vocal pitch at 1:05 and 1:08. It seems off to me.
- At 3:01, the drums didn't jive to the vocalist (to Tamar). It felt kinda awkward.
- The vocal loudness isn't consistent. It is sometimes soft, and sometimes loud. The difference is about 2dB. If you can't ask Tamar to re-record the vocals, try adding more compression on your vocal track. You may also want to play with the EQ and reverb.
- Lyrics are sad, but suits the melodies of the song. Kudos!
- You have this background noise that resembles playing a vinyl. I'll just think it's your style. It kinda works anyway.

Overall, it's a good track to chill out to. Good job! ^_^

Khuskan responds:

Occasionally people post constructive reviews :D

Yeah. Most of the issues with the vocals are right. Some of the pitches are a little out, and the second verse especially because I accidentally processed it with different auto tune (YEAH I KNOW. DON'T SHOUT) settings than the others without realising. The problem was that since I was making this track for a College course, I had two weeks to learn how to use Cubase with rewire. Fair enough, but I still havn't got around sending audio back to Reason, or even if it's possible to run it through my compression rig.

I might do an NG mix soon where the vocals are put into reason and done in a sort of bypass way to get the best possible effect. Oh, and the vinyly sound effect going in the background was to get me extra points on the course, because such an effect is common place in the trip-hop genre.

Interesting set of instruments...

When I heard this track, my initial reaction was, "wow, nice set!" I like the pattern/riff you used as well.

If I were you, I'd probably tweak the EQ to boost the bass by a wee bit... maybe ~2-3dB. Would be fun to throw in a flanger or phaser somewhere in the track too (not all; it'll ruin the feel).

I'm wondering why you have that low rating right now (2.28 from 8 voters). Selective taste?

Anyway, you get my five. ^_^

Try going the extra mile

The Canon is a great piece on piano. This is easy listening.

You may have the notes right, but may I suggest that you go an extra mile after this upload. It may take a lot more effort to make, but the results may be rewarding. ^_^

Uhm...

I like the Pink Panther theme, and I liked the concept of having an 8-bit version (kinda fresh, I guess).

Problem here is the instruments are not balanced. Some are too loud; some are too soft. Fix that first. Also, check the overall loudness of your recording. It's coming off too loud out my speakers.

Hope this would help. ^_^
