Nice hook, needs better mixing and samples

Pros: Nice hook line. The composition is good for dancing and rapping.
Cons: Needs better samples/instruments to get this going to where it can go. Bass elements can be boosted (sub-100Hz area) to give it more kick.

Overall, it's a good track to develop further. I'm imagining a little more aggressive beat, with less clapping (or toned down, perhaps). I'd add some distortion/overdrive to the piano, too, but not too much -- just enough to give it some grunt.

HTH. ^_^

S-Rock responds:

What really sux is that when I made this beat it was on the Demo version of the program I use...I got the full version now and Cant edit it anymore =(.
So if anyone out there wants to Edit this track feel free but E-Mail me with the Finished product.

Audio is distorted

Pros: I like the composition. Gives this song a sad but consoling tone.
Cons: There is a lot of distortion -- methinks from overboosting. Check your mixing. ^_^

Very eighties; needs a bass boost

Pros: Nice tune. Very eighties pop.
Cons: Needs to adapt to the 21st century in terms of EQ-ing. Bass EQ needs a kick (boost sub-150Hz of bass elements) to give the track more life.

FatKidWitAJetPak responds:

It does doesn't it? Thanks for your help.

But I am afraid that if i boost the bass, then it might not sound as organic and real. But most techno shouldn't be that.

I hope this isn't the final mix

The guitars and drums lack grunt -- the energy I was expecting wasn't there. Bass and vocals are in the right place, though. Might just be an EQ/mixing issue.

Still deserves a five any day. ^_^

SwashieB responds:

Thanks, I played the bass.

Nice

Pros: Good guitar, good instrumental EQ.
Cons: Vocals need polishing. Back vocals came in late (personal preference). Vocals are soft and sitting behind the instruments.

5 and 9. ^_^

Almost...

Pros: Good track; good composition.
Cons: Needs a revisit at the equalizer. Lacks low-end punch (can't feel the bass below 200Hz). Also needs some crisp (need to bump treble elements above 14kHz).

nubbinownz responds:

yeah i actually left the bass out except for the very end. but yes you're absolutely right. :D Thank you for the really informative review

Good job!

One thing though... why didn't you extend this track to, say, 3 minutes?

On another note, this would fit an action game's soundtrack very, very well.

Mixing... hmm... I'd bump up the sub-100Hz range of the bass guitar to give it more presence. Other than that, everything's good.

Fived and ten'd. ^_^

DarKsidE555 responds:

Shortness is my enemy but I can assure you that my newest two submissions are over 3 mins. long. ;)

Thanks for checking!

Awesome Track

Now here's a nice track to blast on highways with. ^_^

Awesome piece of work, from the arrangement down to the mixing. It never got boring (note: I'm not a fan of trance). The energy this makes is just electric.

5 and 10. This doesn't deserve any less.

You can remaster this, then kick more ass

The sound concept is awesome, but the mix sounds thin. Here's what I think you should do:

1. Boost the low-end elements, like the bass guitar and the bass drum. This should give you a fuller sound, which would translate to a heavier track.
2. As a consequence of a thin mix, I didn't bang my head, not once. BUT I know this CAN be a banger. I'm just stressing the importance of #1.

Try listening this track to a closed headset. Also, mix the track with your mixing platform's EQ (Windows mixer settings) is flat (just in case...).

Riffs are awesome, by the way. Wish I can play guitar like that. ^_^

Bad-Man-Incorporated responds:

I hear it all, bro. I just need a bass guitar. That would help, more than turning up the low end on my tone. When I do that, I just get clipping. The palm muting on the lower strings, for some reason clip to hell.

I do mix with all my windows at flat. I used my headphones, my surround sound, and my house stereo...but sadly...I'm still not satisfied. haha. But in any case...I will NAIL the sound I'm looking for eventually. And when I do...you WILL headbang. haha.

Thanks for the awesome review, man.\m/

Try playing with more effects

Like navij11, I've been drawn here thanks to your thread. Don't do that again please; use the audio ads thread.

Here's my take on this piece:
- The piano has a delay effect, but it dies out too fast. Tweak it more to the wet side... maybe 10% more. You can also try compression instead, but I think my first suggestion is better.
- Try de-synthing your lead instruments. I suggest reducing the treble a bit, then add a touch of reverb.
- I like the arrangement; kudos.
- Bass needs more beef. I think this is why navij11 didn't find the energy he was looking for. Try adding 1-2dB to the sub-100Hz to your bass instrument -- that should give your bass more oomph.
- There's bass and treble, but there's a hole in the midrange of your track. You can either add another element to fill that space, or EQ one of your instruments to fill in the midrange.

That's just my take; you still own this track. 4 and 8. ^_^

ShirkDeio responds:

Thanks for reviewing, glad you enjoyed it. Also, thanks for the tips, I'll remember them in future tracks :D

Sorry about that thread, I just couldn't contain my temporary excitement at seeing my songs at #2 and #3. How'd you get here anyways, this song was past page 3 when I posted about my songs on page one =p

Anyways, I won't do that again. But, thanks for taking the time to review!
